Why use our MOV to MP4 Converter?
Fast Lossless Remux First
Most phone-recorded MOV files already contain H.264 or HEVC video and AAC audio. For those, the existing streams are repackaged into an MP4 container in seconds, with zero quality loss.
Automatic Re-encode Fallback
If a file's codec cannot be remuxed directly into MP4, it is automatically re-encoded with H.264 High Profile and AAC instead, so the conversion still finishes.
Optional Compression
Tick Compress video to re-encode at a chosen quality and cap the resolution at 1080p or 720p, and see exactly how much smaller each file got.
YouTube and Social Media Ready
Output uses H.264 High Profile, AAC audio, yuv420p colour, and web fast-start, the same settings recommended for YouTube, Instagram, and other platforms.
100% Private
Your files never leave your device. Every conversion runs locally in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, stored, or seen by anyone.
Supports MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM
Not just MOV. Drop in MKV, AVI, or WebM files and they convert to MP4 the same way.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your video is never uploaded anywhere.
Why does the first conversion take a moment to start?
The FFmpeg engine is downloaded and set up the first time you use it each visit. After that, conversions start right away.
Will converting reduce my video's quality?
Usually not. Most MOV files are remuxed (repackaged into MP4 with no re-encoding), which is lossless. Only files that cannot be remuxed are re-encoded, using a near-lossless CRF 18 setting. If you turn on Compress video, the file is deliberately re-encoded smaller at the quality you choose.
How long does conversion take?
A remux takes a few seconds regardless of length. A full re-encode is slower since it runs without hardware acceleration in the browser, so a long or large video can take several minutes.
What file types can I convert?
MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM all convert to MP4. Most other common video containers work too.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no hard limit, but very large or very long videos use a lot of memory and can be slow in some browsers. Keep the tab open and active while converting.
Is this converter free?
Yes. It is free to use with no sign-up, no account, and no watermark on your files.
